On August 26th Ladies’ Circle International’s 64th Annual General Meeting was held in Jaipur, India. The nomination of Kvinna till Kvinna by Ladies Circle 13 in Jönköping Sweden was accepted for the upcoming international charity project 2023–2025.
The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has defended women’s rights since 1993. For every woman’s right to be safe and to be heard. Today they are one of the world’s leading women’s rights organisations, working directly in areas affected by war and conflict to strengthen women’s influence and power. The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation work closely together with more than 100 local partner organisations across 20 countries to end violence against women, reach lasting peace and close the gender-gap once and for all.
– We have come a long way in the strive for equal rights, but we still have a long way to go. We are happy and grateful that we have been selected by Ladies Circle International for this project because together we can make a difference, and to receive support from a women’s organisation is of course extra meaningful, says Petra Tötterman Andorf, Secretary-General for The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation.
Ladies’ Circle (LC) was founded in Bournemouth, England during the war in 1936 and the first English Clubs formed the English National Ladies’ Circle Association (GB&I). LC Sweden was founded 1947 and two years after Denmark followed. In May 1959, the three countries established Ladies’ Circle International (LCI) and shortly Ladies’ Circle expanded into new countries and continents. Today Ladies’ Circle International is an international service organisation represented by approximately 13 000 members, in over 40 countries across continents Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Their members are women between 18 to 45 years and the organisation, just like The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation works without attaching importance to religious, political, national or ethnic affiliation.
– Much has been achieved, but many existing crossings of boundaries of possibilities are certainly still ahead – to do good together and support those who need it the most. I want to give my thank you to the members that have voted for this cooperation and opportunity between Ladies Circle International and The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation. I’m very happy and extremely grateful, says Airi Arrak, President of Ladies’ Circle International.
The nomination was sent in and will be hosted by the local Ladies Circle 13 in Jönköping Sweden, a local Circle who was founded in September 1957. The aim is to collect and contribute to Kvinna till Kvinna with 150 000 Euro during these two years. During this time different activities, campaigns, events and webinar will be held to raise the founds to Kvinna till Kvinna.
– We are an organization by women, for women and therefor it feels so good all the way in to our hearts that we, all around the LCI world can contribute from one woman to another woman, says Liza Manestam, member from the local Ladies Circle 13 Jönköping who will host the project for the coming two years.
